Branch research.Keep the evidence close.

A collaborative research draft with native Git history and source-grounded answers from imported evidence.

One shared research draft

Yjs and Hocuspocus synchronize the paper, with an explicit local fallback when collaboration is unavailable.

PAPER DRAFT

Methods

Local fallback

Visible until a shared draft reconnects.

Git history, without the mystery

Create branches and commits, compare semantic word diffs, then resolve a real merge conflict.

Import the evidence trail

Text, Markdown, PDF, ChatGPT, and Claude exports become separate research artifacts.

Ask from evidence

Lexical retrieval and pgvector find imported excerpts before OpenAI produces a source-grounded answer.

Retrieved excerpts

The evidence rail stays separate from the live paper draft.

A traceable research loop

Collaboration, version control, and retrieval remain separate states that you can inspect from the workspace.

  1. Import the evidence

Bring text, Markdown, PDF, ChatGPT, or Claude exports into the artifact store before asking questions about them.

  2. Write and commit

Edit the shared Yjs draft with Hocuspocus when available, then create a branch or commit with native Git.

  3. Inspect the change

Open history and semantic diffs, resolve a merge conflict when needed, and retrieve imported excerpts for grounded answers.

Questions, answered plainly

The landing describes only what the prototype currently does.

What does BranchLab synchronize?

The paper uses Yjs through Hocuspocus when collaboration is available. If it is unavailable, BranchLab keeps an explicit local fallback draft rather than presenting it as shared.
